I'm seeing this issue too. app receives gcm messages correctly, then goes into airplane mode, all messages sent while app is in airplane mode are lost, when app regains connectivity, new messages make it to the device but the ones sent while app was in airplane mode never get through.

Similar issue here.

Based on what the GCM diagnostic tool says, at 9:29 the device was not available so the message has been stored on the server, and delivered at 9:43.

but based on what I see on the application logs on the device, the message has been delivered two times, both at 9:29 and 9:43

I have also started to see this happen within my application logs more often than in the past.

Hey guys, any updates on this?

My application relies on both downstream and upstream messages (XMPP).

Everything was working reasonably fine, and one could tell it's just a coincidence, but after the GCM became deprecated in favor of new FCM, I've got duplicated messages being delivered on client (Android) and server several times per day. Even worse, the connection with GCM servers is lost pretty quickly now.

I tried to find a decent implementation of a GCM XMPP server which deals properly with those issues, but I could only find basic stuff: sending and receiving messages and acknowledges.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

GCM infrastructure didn't change due to the switch to FCM, so the two events are unrelated.
Please use the channels available at https://firebase.google.com/support to notify us of any issue.

Hi Diego,

I don't want sound like a jerk, but that answer doesn't help much.

If the Github issues system is not an "official" channel, then I think it would be better to close it.

I will eventually open a ticket using one of the channels provided at that link, so thanks anyway.

understand your frustration, but we decided to keep it open for issues about the samples and libraries that the repository contains.

for issues on the SDK and the overall GCM / FCM infrastructure the https://firebase.google.com support channels are more adequately staffed and constantly monitored.
