I think this failing behavior is due to the preloading of the cucumber environment, although I cannot reproduce it. In fact I had today a failing feature and it went to green after fixing the bug.
Anyway it is not a good practice to dig deep into the cucumber internals and access private api's, because it is likely to fail sooner or later in the future, thus I have allocated some time tomorrow for the following changes:
- Remove the preloading of the Cucumber environment
- Add a drb option to delegate the environment preloading to spork
You can expect a new release tomorrow.

I just released version 0.2.1 which makes the experimental preloading of the Cucumber environment optional and off by default.
