So far looking like non-system non-temp tables and views (can't list temporary tables as discussed above)

RSQLServer inherit's RJDBC's dbListTables method. This gets all the DB's tables through DatabaseMetaData interfaces. It's method makes it possible to filter by name, but not by table name

Using EXEC sp_tables; statement, I was able to list all table names, types etc of AdventureWorks DB. Of the ~500 tables in the DB, ~350 were owned by sys, with another ~20 owned by INFORMATION_SCHEMA. I doubt these tables would be of much interest to users. Could modify routine such that only those tables whose owners were not sys or INFORMATION_SCHEMA would be listed by default.

Went with just TABLE and VIEW.
