Thanks, Chris. The more I think about this, the more the "con" seems to outweigh the "pro." I like the "original_date", YAMLized, solution. Aside from being cleaner, it might also provide a nice way to distinguish between imported and non-imported posts.
If you come up with an importing solution you're happy with, let me know, and I'll add some notes to the readme. I assume you're not the only person facing, or who will eventually face, this quandary.

I think I talked myself out of it as well -- will do! Writing an importer would be a fun learning experience with Grit. (I post to my own site so seldom that it's faster to do manually at present.) Closing this for now.
