Ah, an addition:
I don't know many scheme projects following current industrial practice. So, your work is just establishing the best practice for everyone. Just do it.

One that triggers on a PR and runs tests.
Yes, basically, it's what I want.
- This can be implemented mostly on top of the checkout workflow; we just need a Dockerfile.
It seems possible. And, I have to say, the docker file must be compatible with at least Ubuntu 16.04, which is my environment, and Chez Scheme 9.6. In the near future, Chez Scheme 10 also should be included.
- A workflow that triggers on a merge into the
main
branch and publishes a new release. It can derive the version number from aChangelog.md
written in a discussion, file, or commit message.
Well, I'm not sure that, it's of high level. A truth for scheme-lanserver is, it publishes releases synchronously on AKKU and github. And previous step requires certification with my personal signature. But, I agree with a nightly release: all changes on main branch, if and only if they pass all tests, a nightly release could be generated and, it won't be published on AKKU.
It's nice to talk with you and I'd love to hear you soon.

@ufo5260987423 I've made some progress between my classes with the Dockerfile: it builds Chez Scheme (and akku, though that's a work in progress) and then copies them into the runtime image. But then I realized the build process could perhaps be expressed as a nix derivation. The benefit is that we both package scheme-langserver into the most extensive software repository (nixpkgs) and, using the same code, write a Dockerfile for testing. I'm confident that I will have the "normal" Dockerfile by tomorrow evening (EST), and I can probably write up a prototype of a nix flake
for this project by the end of the week.
The only drawback of Nix is that build times may take longer without a cache. Aside from that, it will likely make development more accessible as those familiar with the package manager could get started with one command.
What do you think of this?
from scheme-langserver.
I'm ok with docker things.
And as for nix, it's like a apt-get or snap in ubuntu, right?
If nix doesn't require more certification or something else, it can be a good choice.

Great!
And as for nix, it's like a apt-get or snap in ubuntu, right?
Yeah, except unlike apt-get, it works on OSes outside of its own. I run Nix alongside apt on Pop!_OS and Pacman on Arch.
If nix doesn't require more certification or something else, it can be a good choice.
How do you mean?
from scheme-langserver.
I mean I use Ubuntu, and have no idea with nix. So, If you're interested in nix, and want to do some work, it will be ok. Unlike such docker things which I can give you some advice, I really don't know anything helpful on nix, Lol.
