Improved in r293:
Simplify dependency support.
Do not assume the referring node has an id.
The current parsing/rendering design uses reference tracking to support forward
references and redraw of referencing elements on scripting changes to referenced
elements like gradients. Removal of reference tracking would require a
demonstrated
alternative design that solves the same issues.
Closing as fixed because the current implementation of reference tracking and
invalidation is not going to get much simpler without being removed completely.
