I can't reproduce this. I've had symlinks for ages and they never caused issues. I like to keep the penta config files inside my firefox profile for several reasons.

Even after changing an option and running :mkpentadactylrc!, the symlinks don't get overwritten but the target files change, as expected.

Consider using a hardlink if the symlink doesn't work for you. If you're under windows, you can create an NTFS junction for the pentadactyl folder into dropbox.

@polyzen I am not currently using symlinks, because I was having trouble with them previously. If others confirm that they work on different platforms, then I suspect the issue can be marked as resolved.
