Kafka Connector

• Remain available for discussions, no active work on it during this sprint

Akka Http

• Prepare baseline measurements
  • Konrad made some last week

Done.

• Collect flamegraphs, fix hotspots

Done.

• Explain how to use Http bench infra to team (EC2 boxes)

Done.

• Short lived connections case
  • Measure, check; don’t go all in on it

Done. Performance doubled, still headroom for improvement by rewriting materialization (in progress)

• See where Akka HTTP starts to become overwhelmed and Spray didn’t

Done.

• Strengthen community involvement

Done. Started some chats, will take it to akka-meta soon.

• Think and write down versioning moving forward

Started thinking. Will take discussion to Akka-Meta soon.

Akka Streams

• Optimize materialization speed
  • might be another approach to solving non-persistent http connections
  • enabler for melding

Started, very promising however did not make it in time this sprint.

• Specialize linear graphs (?)

Started, dropped, looked at it again, and we think it may pay off nicely.
Will revisit in a different sprint.

We did instead optimise the Interpreter itself. This gained a lot for simple map stages - got 200% improvement of perf in a chain of maps, more problematic cases improved by only 10%, but realistically 30-40% improvement in many cases.

Artery

• Await community feedback

Not much feedback so far.

Akka Typed

• Coordinate and be involved in discussions

Not done, need to reply on akka-meta.

Other

• Release Java Formatter SBT plugin and use it in Akka

Released!
Not yet included in Akka build, will cause much reformatting damage.

Bugs and failures

• Bug start count: 26 => 26
• Failure start count: 35 => 37

Pretty OK, we'll want to crush more bugs in the current sprint though.

Work on bugs and test failures are timeboxed to 4 days (Monday and Tuesday the first and second week). Customer reported bugs may of course change this.

Blog

• Write one additional post

Will write about JSON streaming.

• publish one post, maybe in 2nd week, following up on the Streams theme

Done, GraphStage post.

Releases

• Akka 2.4.9 at end of Sprint, focused on shipping the Akka HTTP work

Done, we decided it will be RC1 for now.

• Akka Stream Contrib on demand (likely do publish one)

Not done, will do during this sprint.
