I've worked around this by writing a general purpose .proto processor with a Swift backend included. It outputs code like this. It still uses protobuf-swift to do the heavy lifting, which was made possible by the very thoughtfully designed API. It's nowhere near as feature complete as the default generated code (eg. doesn't support unknown fields), but is sufficient for our needs.
