Paper trading broken- due to wrong data type for amounts or size (str vs int or float) about alpaca-backtrader-api HOT 2 CLOSED

thanks for the issue.
you have here 2 types of errors:

1. string-float conversion (like what you fixed yourself) - the api returns floats as strings and we need to convert them back to float/int. I fixed it in the repo and you can pull it from the master branch. pypi version will be updated soon.
2. asyncio event loop in the alpaca api. I will create a separate PR for that, but releasing the api sdk takes more time. for now, this is what you do:

• open alpaca-trade-api-python/alpaca_trade_api/stream2.py (it's probably in your site-packages)
• go to line 28:
  except websockets.WebSocketException as wse:
• change it to:
  except (websockets.WebSocketException, RuntimeError) as wse:

note: to install from the master branch in github do this:
pip install -U git+https://github.com/alpacahq/alpaca-backtrader-api
