As we can weave global function (and internal function too), I think you can weave your old school php code.

Ok. Cool!
I am giving it a try, I built the extension, added it to php.ini, but it is not loaded and in the error.log there's a message saying PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/home/modules/aop.so' - /home/modules/aop.so: undefined symbol: php_pcre_exec in Unknown on line 0.
Any help?
