Resolution is here. But you can specify a build directory for the code using the -B flag. You can then monitor the code appending the monitor flag to the build command since your build files will be in a different location than the project. Example flow is below:
# Build the code near your root directory (for a shorter path)
idf.py -B "C:\espbuild" build
# Flash the device
idf.py -B "C:\espbuild" -p <YOUR COM> flash
# Monitor the output
idf.py -B "C:\espbuild" -p <YOUR COM> monitor from iot-middleware-freertos-samples.
