Scripts are provisioning Windows Server as Jumphost. Shouldn't this be Windows Client 10?

This is as expected. Windows 10 machines are not typically deployed into Microsoft Azure. The typical pattern for such a lab is to deploy a Windows Server instance. Furthermore jump hosts are always a version of Windows Server to support multiple concurrent logins to the same virtual machine.

Terraform script has been switched to use Windows 10 client.

The following represents a usable Windows 10 (or Linux) dev machine for Java developers

• JDK 1.8

• A text editor or an IDE. If you do not already have an IDE for Java development, we recommend using Visual Studio Code with the Java Extension Pack

• Azure CLI

• The Bash shell. While Azure CLI should behave identically on all environments, some semantics may need to be modified if you use other shells. For Windows, you can use Git Bash that accompanies the Windows distribution of Git

• Maven

• Developers always deal with databases - PostgreSQL, MySQL or SQL Database. Based on the database of your choice, they will require the corresponding database's command-line tool:

  • PostgreSQL CLI
  • MySQL CLI
  • SQLCMD CLI.

• The jq utility. On Windows, download this Windows port of JQ and add the following to the ~/.bashrc file:

• The environment variable JAVA_HOME should be set to the path of javac in the JDK installation.
