The go-autorest repo is in maintenance mode at this point and is set to be deprecated in March 31, 2023.
Our new module for authentication is azidentity, and you can use ManagedIdentityCredential for authenticating via IMDS.

For ManagedIdentityCredential there is no timeout like there is for this adal module. The lifetime of the request is controlled by the context.Context passed to the request and any options on the underlying *http.Client.
By "exponential backup support", if you're referring to exponential backoff for retries, then the answer is yes.
