After writing, the read/write pointer is at the end of the file (see tmp_file.tell()), that's why the following read() doesn't work (there is no data to read at this point).

Use tmp_file.seek(0) before read()ing, then it should work.

IMHO, this is a feature, not a bug.
And it has nothing to do with the file extension.

BTW, you don't even need format='wav' when writing, the extension is taken automatically from tmp_file.name.

All true, my bad (the format='wav' was added when I didn't have suffix='.wav' yet. I just forgot to take it out.)
