The SD detect pin does not do too much right now. We added the pin to the config file spec for future use. Right now, the only useful thing it does is tell you if the card is present at startup.
Most FluidNC hardware does not use this pin, so there is little incentive to add more support.
If you want to detect it on startup, you need to make sure the active state (:high/:low) and pull up/down (:pu/:pd) matches the circuit you have.
