This is a good idea. It will be somewhat difficult to implement, but not too bad.

Yes, it should be working right now. For newer threads, it should sync the ID with ChatGPT and take you back to your previous conversation. For older threads, it will send in a JSON of the conversation. However, if you have to sign in or pass a Cloudflare check, the older threads will not work.

We should probably finish this in the content.js rewrite; in that case, since OpenAI already has assigned an id in the url and one can continue conversations that way, it should be much easier.
