I've posted a question about best practices to the TEI-L forum. I suspect that a lot depends on how we (or the MVZ) plan to use the transcripts and what sort of programmatic parsing we need to support.

Ben

I see that you have had a reply that includes

do.

[The expanded text]

Nothing like the smell of HTML (or whichever) in the morning.

My guess is that this should be a call of Christina and her gang based on
how they want to use the text as you say.

It has been very wet here the past couple weeks. Last evening I saw some
deer tracks in part of the back yard that doesn't drain well. One looked
like the hoof had sunk in a good 5 inches. It should be even worse tonight
since it rained most of the day.

By the way, speaking of field worker's slang, years ago I was coding a field
sheet ( adding numeric codes that would be entered instead of punching
complete names) and encountered "Polish Blue Fish". This particular survey
involved taking a sample from power station trash screens backwash every
hour and I suspect that it was at the end of a long, cold, boring night. The
fish in question turned out to have been a gizzard shad which is found in
rivers on at least part of the East coast. Unlike its noble cousins which
are delicious, I have never heard anyone speak well of their flesh. And,
they are really slimy.

Nat

This is a collection specific transcription convention -- up to the owner. Closing.
