So what data should the script be based on to determine the cover position?

I'm not the expert. Positioning controls are disabled in the Shelly. Is this a problem with the shelly? With the discovery script? I'm trying to figure it out... It was working without MQTT.

I can tell you this: previously, whenever I restarted HASS, the state of the shutters defaulted to "closed" independently of the actual position. I had to manually close the shutters and open them again if I wanted to change the state to "open". I believe that tells me HASS handles the position state?

position is the basis for determining the status of the cover, I don't know how your device works or why it works differently than others. If you provide me data on how to detect cover state via MQTT, maybe I can help. I can't do anything without it.

It seems to me that the lack of position is most often caused by incorrect calibration. Try to calibrate the device.

Ok, I'll try and figure it out with Shelly and get back to you if I get anything worthy. I agree with you that pos shouldn't always be -1 if I have positioning disabled and Shelly should be "guessing" the actual position based on the operation of the switches.

@bieniu so what I need is to have the optimistic flag on MQTT set to true. How do I do this when using this script for discovery?
