Once we've implemented our multifeed support, we'll only need a single template to generate all feeds for different formats and categories.

I would appreciate to keep the feed management as simple as possible since it's the most crucial part of our publishing system. This means generating multiple feeds from one and only one template in one and only one format. This way the system is easy to maintain and less error prone.

It would certainly be "more modern" to implement an Atom feed, BUT this would mean to drop RSS support if we want to keep the system as simple and manageable as possible. If we all agree on dropping RSS on favor of Atom completely, let's do it. If not: stick with RSS until there's a realy good reason to switch.

Update: Marc mentioned, that Feedburner can convert atom feeds into RSS. One solution would be to completely switch to Atom and let Feedburner do the conversion for older/incompatible feed readers and podcatchers.
