FWIW, note that it is still possible to subscribe to the mailing list by emailing [email protected]
from bittorrent.org.

That asks for a google account which in turn asks for a phone number which I think is an unacceptable hurdle for mailing list membership.

yeah, the mailing list used to be open, but something happened a few years ago and nobody at BitTorrent Inc. has managed to figure out (or have had enough incentive) to open it up again.
I believe using github as forum is the new plan. Someone said they would update the link a while ago, but I guess that didn't happen
