Thanks for following up on this @filmgal, those are both correct. Content search will show up eventually once I figure out a way to make it not super-slow (will need to add some more indexing). You can use contains or regexmatch for the second one.

Re Scenario 2: use contains: list where contains(file.name, "Journal")
