Which version of the extension are you using ?
Are you using third-party extensions that apply to the orders grid ?
The error you get seems to be a bug that is now fixed in the github version, and otherwise the EAG extension is not supposed to alter the rendering of base grid columns, so this is not a normal behaviour.

I have updated to the latest version on here and still cannot use the status column as expected.

The problem is certainly related to an incompatibility between the two extensions, do you still need the other one ?
As it's commercial, I can't test it myself to check what could be the problem, but unless it brings some features that can't be found in EAG, you may consider to uninstall it. And in the other case, don't hesitate to tell me what is missing for you on the orders grid.
