Yes, I am able to resolve this error using this solution, but any idea why this is required? I am not using portlet. Does not seem like annoying?

You can use "portlet-api_2.0_spec-1.0.jar" from Pluto (a portlet container). Just copy to WEB-INF/lib and correctly Configure Build Path.
