First time compilation leads to "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" about ping-play HOT 3 CLOSED

It's certainly possible that this prototype code has some sort of memory leak in it. That said, I hadn't seen it from local testing. Perhaps you just need to tweak the JVM settings you're using when running Play?

Mine are:

-Xms512M -Xmx1536M -Xss1M -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=192m -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -XX:MaxPermSize=512M

Yes that's what I did. I just found it weird that an OutOfMemoryError was throw after a compilation. Anyway, I'm closing this "issue" :)

Agreed it's a bit odd. That said, I'm not sure the default play script sets the -XX:MaxPermSize param, so you probably get the OS default, which is 64MB or so. I wouldn't be surprised if SBT + Netty + Play need more than that once you start doing anything interesting.
