cablastp-extract appends '*' to sequences. about cablastp HOT 2 OPEN

What is cablastp-extract? That doesn't exist in this repository as far as I can see. It may help if you post the exact command you're running.

I just realized that cablastp-extract appends * characters to my protein sequnces

The * is a legal character that indicates "translation stop." It is documented in the closest thing we have to a specification for FASTA: http://blast.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/blastcgihelp.shtml

Any FASTA parser should be able to handle the asterisk.

sorry I mixed up different software here. I meant cablastp-decompress and I called it with default parameters.
I know that the asterisk is a valid FASTA character, and also that it is the char for translation stop. That is exactly the reason I am wondering, why cablastp is appending that to every amino acid sequence in the data I used (which is a proteom, so it would be right in most cases).
But not every amino acid sequence necessarily has to end in a stop, as some of them are produced by cutting longer AS-chains for example. The asterisk makes no biological sense then and might be misleading.
