I looked into this. This looks related to meminit files.

The second script runs before the embind bindings run, because the first script doesn't actually run the bindings until the meminit XHR returns.

I would say this is expected but non-obvious behavior. Perhaps one fix, @cee-dee, is to disable meminit files.

Another would be to not run the second script until the meminit file is loaded. (I don't recall off the top of my head how to do that.)

So, one thing that you could here is to wrap your code in:

Module.addOnPreMain(function() { ... });

Like this:

That works for me with your sample @ -O2 and solves the meminit file issue that @chadaustin identified.
