The accepted answer was not applicable as the suggested removal of certain lines in the manifest does not exist in the ChatCat project.
We have found the problem causing this and will push it in the next ChatSDK commit:

The need to upgrade Backendless 3.0.17.1 to 3.0.24 (MessageStatus Class moved): Sdk/build.gradle -> 'com.backendless:backendless:3.0.24'

In 3.0.24 the MessageStatus class has moved. The need to change the import statement to this: import com.backendless.services.messaging.MessageStatus;
The error goes away with this upgrade of the Backendless library.
