It occurred to me that the way that I instantiated this object may matter. It was done this way (highly simplified for bug reporting purposes):
$kdb_obj = File::KDBX->new;
$kdb_obj->load_file($file, $comp_master_key);
$kdb = File::KeePass::KDBX->new($kdb_obj);
As best I can tell, this appears to be supported and should work, but I'm not 100% sure, so thought I would add this comment.
