We just heard from someone else who's interested in Italian, so it looks like there might be some good momentum there. There are two files, the one you listed and this one as well. We can take steps on our end to activate Italian as a language that can be added to the platforms.

If you do work out a great system for auto-translation, it may also be of interest to some others who are looking to bring the platform to other countries.

Thanks for your interest in contributing!

๐Ÿ‘‹ Thanks for your message. We can definitely add a translation for it-IT. Even better if you want to help get that started. If you're looking at auto-translating, there should be one or two more files that could be included in that effort. I can also generate a data file in Excel depending on what's easier for you.

Curious - any ideas for a first project or platform in Italy? ๐Ÿ˜€

Can you please list the files here? The format doesn't matter.

Nope, but I hope the Italian translation will help to increase the project adoption there.

Sorry for the late reply. Iโ€™ve just written a tool to translate the files you mentioned by using the โ€˜AWS Translateโ€™ service.

I was going to open a PR to add the it-IT translation but I see it has been added recently (few days after Iโ€™ve opened this issue) ๐ŸŽ‰

I think we can mark this as โœ… but if you are interested, I can probably run the tool targeting another language and build more translation files:

Amazon Translate supports translation between the following 71 languages: Afrikaans, Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified), Catalan, Chinese (Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dari, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, French Canadian, Georgian, German, Greek, Gujarati, Haitian Creole, Hausa, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Kazakh, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Malayalam, Maltese, Mongolian, Norwegian, Farsi (Persian), Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Sinhala, Slovak, Slovenian, Somali, Spanish, Spanish Mexican, Swahili, Swedish, Filipino Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek, Vietnamese, and Welsh.

Hey - this is great and will definitely be useful! Curious if you've had a look and what you think the quality of the translations is?

We've also had another OS contributor who has done a lot of work doing Italian translations over the past few weeks; I'll add Italian to the demo platform soon and share it with you!

I can think of a few others who might be interested in auto-translation files, we've had someone working on Swedish and likely some other requests as well. What is the process for this - does it need to go through you or is it something that people could do on their own as they're creating their own platform?

The translation files looks ๐Ÿ‘ but for a full review it could be nice to see the content on the demo platform.

Iโ€™m happy to open source the tool on GitHub if you like so that everyone can be independent to add new translations (you can probably add the tool to your build pipeline if you like).

Hi Guido! Sorry for the late reply. You can see Italian on the demo platform here: https://opensource.citizenlab.co/it-IT/ ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Super cool to see it all in a new language.

I think it's a great idea to open source the tool and add it into the build pipeline, I'd be happy to pass the word onto people who are currently working on other translations.

๐Ÿ‘‹ Hi Julienne!
You can find it at https://github.com/guidoiaquinti/citizenlab_translate. As you can see it is still a wip and it doesn't cover a lot of edge cases but it's anyway a start.

Let me know what do you think about it. Feedback are welcome!
