Leaving a debugger call in should start a debug console. I'm not sure why you're leaving debugger in if you don't want to activate it. You could try wrapping debugger in if $stdin.tty?. If that doesn't work then I recommend removing/commenting it when not using it.

I didn't leave it in on purpose... I was debugging with rails server, and forgot to take it back out before switching back to pow. I was a little surprised by it breaking when running in pow. iirc with ruby-debug, it didn't pause when there was no tty or rdb client. Maybe something else changed in my environment that I'm not thinking of.
