Document DNS requirements for Workers about cloudflare-docs-engine HOT 9 CLOSED

Documenting requirements of the platform seems like a reasonable request. Please consider re-opening this and adding information to the README.md about what records are required to be in place before using wrangler publish. Thanks

Yes, absolutely, this is what the issue was about. I'll PR a small tweak, now that I'm thinking about it: we should recommend an AAAA record to 100::, which is the reserved IPv6 discard prefix, which ensures requests to "origin" will be immediately discarded/timed out.

Hehe... it's not super important, but it's definitely the safest and most foolproof way to do accomplish this, so figure we should recommend it explicitly.

I think this issue has been resolved with the documentation for Workers Sites; these docs tell users to use wildcard routes if they are BYO zone. One thing we still don't do is create a dummy DNS record; We should put this in the docs (or... even have Wrangler create a dummy record using the DNS v4 API?)

I think it would definitely make sense to create a dummy A record (and maybe even some other CNAME records) when users publish to routes. It's unclear why DNS is necessary especially for Workers Sites and seems like something we should take care of automatically.

If we don't create a dummy A record, we should at least warn the user that they need one. It's a confusing first experience when you deploy a site. Right now you deploy with wrangler, it looks like it deployed but you're unable to ping the domain. People are conditioned to assume that it's a DNS delay and don't realize they need to take action on. Even if they did, it's not obvious that they should invent an IP for the dummy record.
