Possible candidates:
- RancherOS
- CoreOS

To be quite honest, I'm leaning towards RancherOS more than CoreOS because it's lighter and doesn't have the unneeded components that systemd has.

but moving to RancherOS would require some rewrite of the services to make it more "Rancher friendly"

I'll try experimenting with RancherOS on local hardware and see how it goes...
