Ah, good point. What's on the site right now is a submit-your-email form to gain access to the Slack in the first instance, but we never had an actual link to the thing. That's probably an oversight, but the question will be how to avoid clutter and make it clear which link to click for what.
How about changing the text of both links to be clearer about the action: "Join the Google Group" and "Request a Slack team invite" or something like that?

Is there a link to request a link on Slack itself? If so a better
experience might be to have people click through and request one from
there. That way they can orient themselves a little bit about what it is.

Unfortunately, no, it just dumps you on a sign-in page. Slack also doesn't allow you to put major email providers on the list of pre-approved domains, making the request a necessary step. I can add a few words to the request form explaining Slack, if that would be useful.

Okay, I think I took care of this as part of #103. I included a link to Slack's homepage in the form so that people can go find out what it is, if necessary.

btw I just tried to add someone to slack through the link on the front page, and apparently it worked, but gave me no indication that it did so. Dunno if there's a way to simply say "Great success" ...

Good point. I thought that I had put that in, but apparently not. I'll make it happen shortly.
