I'd both remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.codykrieger* and redownload v2.0 from my website by hand and see if that fixes the issue. One or two other people had this problem before and a redownload solved it.

thanks for the quick reply! unfortunately that did not solve the problem. are there any other options?

and crap, I did not mean to close the issue.

Hmm, I haven't seen any situations where that didn't fix the issue. You might try reinstalling Growl for kicks.

What applications are you running when this happens? What are your login items?

reinstalled growl, rebooted and it's still happening. it seems to be doing it constantly now though even after closing gfxcardstatus (I can tell because the computer pauses for a second when switching video cards). Removed it from startup, and it still continues to pause every 10-20 seconds like it switching cards. If I open the program and take it off of dynamic then all is well though. I have no applications open when it starts. This can't be good...it worries me that it would happen when the app does NOT start with my system; does removing it put all of the settings etc etc back to normal?

login items:
growlhelperapp
gfxcardstatus
smcfancontrol
ituneshelper
caffeine
bettertouchtool
usboverdrivehelper
google notifier
dropbox

I don't see anything on your login items list that should cause this.

If it's still switching quickly after you close gfxCardStatus, though, I'm inclined to think it's not a gfxCardStatus issue. Does it do it even if you take gfxCardStatus out of your login items and reboot?

no if I hit exit the icon just disappears from the menu bar. is it supposed to?

i made a new user account and the problem follows, so it's either something globally with the OS, or the hardware itself...arrr

and yes the problem seems to persist through a reboot with gfxcardstatus taken out of the startup. I'm still running 10.6.4, let me update and see if that fixes anything.

Sounds good - I believe there are some graphics-related updates in 10.6.5 that may have some effect on the issue. Let me know the results of the upgrade.

That seems to have done the trick. I also updated my CUDA drivers but I doubt that was the culprit. Thanks so much for your assistance =)

No problem! Glad you were able to get it solved. It's always some weird thing like that.
