I am having this same exact error. I just bought a white panda and I cannot start the process of reverse engineering my car's CAN messages at the moment with this issue.

You can go to my branch which referenced this issue in the PR with the hotfix and try to run it locally, that's what I've been doing since I got my panda. It's not the best fix, but the error goes away.

It seems that comma.ai has said that they will no longer add support for new models, but will rely on the community to write ports for new models. At the same time, they are giving 0% attention to the tool that the community is supposed to be using to make these ports. Seems counter intuitive, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the comma team to get to this. This issue cropped up in November with no response to date even after I submitted a PR. The repo is effectively dead.
