@bmcminn: Thanks for the idea, I never thought about stopping the video when the dropdown is closed.

Your method sounds like an appropriate way to solve the issue but I'll have to take a closer look at the YouTube and Vimeo APIs so I can if it will be a simple fix.

Feel free to post any links here if you think they'll help in solving this issue.

I started looking into the complexities with requiring YouTube and/or Vimeo API's and the overhead seems a bit much. Think it may be possible to simply embed a youtube/vimeo link and generate a chromeless player as needed, then use the HTML5 video API for playback control. More cross-browser approach, but definitely needs testing. I'll be working on a local demo to see what I come up with, but I'll post my findings and perhaps get a pull request going.

That would be great if you could come up with a local demo and send a pull request! I'm interviewing for jobs this week so I'm trying to tackle only immediate things for the time being. I really appreciate the help 😃

Hey @bmcminn, did you get any time to work on this? I'm only curious because I was wondering if I should include it in the upcoming v2.0.0 release. If not, no worries, just thought I would check in.

Haven't had much time to dabble in this issue beyond peeking at the source and see how the trigger was happening =\ I did find some info on wrapping the Youtube API in the HTML5 video API http://mediaelementjs.com/examples/?name=youtube

I think it's possible this could be extended to support vimeo as well, but may shelf that for a later patch.

@bmcminn No worries, I appreciate you taking the time to look into it!

I'm going to shelve the idea for now as I've got my hands full with other features/improvements for v2.0.0, but I might come back to it, or you can, and we'll patch it in, or release it as an add-on.
