Totally agree, for example, a CMake example recipe would go a long way - particularly for sorting out how to correctly target the generators on Windows.

👍 but where should these example go? Wiki? Docs? Here in the repo like example? (It is already awkward to skip building one example BTW).

Oh, my understanding was to put these in staged-recipes so one can lazily copy and tweak. Admittedly we don't want too many or it will get noisy. We also may need to think about where they need to live in this repo.
