But, I feel you might be confused by something else.

placeholder is, as its name says, a special variable with no actual values. Each time, you need to feed a real value to the placeholder.

If place holder is a 1-d array with length 3, then you need to feed a value such as (3, 6, 1).

The shape of a tensor/array is just the length of each dimension.
[[1,2,4,5],
[6,8,2,4]]
For example, the above array is a 2-d array with shape (2, 4)
