@mlubanski That looks like the RDSInstance
from the community AWS provider, right? The one from https://github.com/crossplane-contrib/provider-aws?
That provider doesn't appear to have added support for initProvider
. See https://marketplace.upbound.io/providers/crossplane-contrib/provider-aws/v0.46.0/resources/database.aws.crossplane.io/RDSInstance/v1beta1
My guess is this 'worked' before on v1.14 with native P&T because the unsupported spec.initProvider
field was being silently dropped and ignored.

It seems terraform based one is kept more up to date with latest crossplane features - am I right, what is your recommendation?
Yeah, I would use upbound/provider-aws-rds. We have a full team of folks here @upbound maintaining it very actively. We (Upbound) are planning to move them into the Crossplane project too, just haven't had time yet: https://blog.crossplane.io/charter-expansion-upjet-donation/

Yes it is the community one, thanks @negz for explanation
I am rewriting completely my Composition (I plan to use functions with go-templating) and now wondering if I should continue using https://github.com/crossplane-contrib/provider-aws or rather move to https://marketplace.upbound.io/providers/upbound/provider-aws-rds? It seems terraform based one is kept more up to date with latest crossplane features - am I right, what is your recommendation?

I don't think there's anything to do on core here so I'll close this. 🙂
