Yeah, the only way to communicate the state between the task and the HTTP view is to pull off of the backend. Glad you were able to solve your issue, though!

i must have something wrong with my celery config. i'll continue tinkering with it and report back. thank you all!

figured it out, my function has an @transactions.atomic() decorator. doesnt play nice probably because celery-progress requires that the backend MUST be updated(re: data commited) in the first place.
