Hey.

My jquery-pjax fork ( https://github.com/spantaleev/jquery-pjax ) aims to do that. It allows the server to return a JSON response that specifies which containers to be updated with what content. The project's README contains some information on how that works.

My pull request was rejected though, that's why it's still separate - #7

defunkt says they're using filter() to achieve this functionality. Maybe you want to look into that and see if it's going to fix your problem.

I see that now. It's not exactly what I described, but it accomplishes the same result, and this request is likely to get rejected for a similar reason.

I'm not opposed to a filter() based solution.

Originally I tried adding something that looked for a <nav> tag and replaced some nav container with the contents, but it quickly got out of hand.

I wonder if microscopic, tweet-sized plugins would make sense.
