My proposal would be:

  • creating language files with e.g. http://i18next.com/ (for easy maintaining)
  • creating upstream PR and crossing fingers

is there something better for JS then i18next?!

And is supported by WTI: https://webtranslateit.com/en/docs/file_formats/json

I guess the question is if we would want to replace our custom solution in diaspora with it too.

I see that as two separated projects. no?

jhass avatar jhass commented on June 19, 2024

Yes, but if we would already load it anyway... less code to maintain ourselves ;)

https://github.com/diaspora/jsxc/blob/develop/locales/en.json#L6

This is still not fixed. Now that our translations are upstream, how will we handle this?

zauberstuhl avatar zauberstuhl commented on June 19, 2024

well, we should request that change in jsxc webtransletit or use our own locales?

Great, you understood my question. If I knew I wouldn't have started this issue with exactly this question!

Alright, looks good.

I proofread them, while doing so I replaced "he or she" with the gender neutral singular "they" and left those unproofread for somebody to verify.

I also noticed a few strings that are apparently concatenated to other translations or strings. I flagged them as to verify since concatenation assumes a certain grammar. That works for many western language in a similar manner, but in some cases those get impossible to translate, especially if go into the asian languages, since the grammar is very different there. You should eventually try to use interpolation everywhere.
