In order to contextualize a particular density value, I think you'd most likely end up calculating a p-value type thing, which brings us back to the percentile rank. If you wanted to get fancy you could see how much the percentile is sensitive to small perturbations in the value (if it's a tiny bit less skewed is it suddenly smack in the middle), but, I don't think this is a good use of time/resources. Could reopen if it comes up later; see kde branch.
