Making Forge AMD-compatible has been on the TODO list for quite a while. We'll accept a pull request if the solution works in node.js and in the browser both with requirejs and script tags, even if it's ugly. We just don't want to regress and disable using script tags. Isolating the solution and clearly commenting what's going on (like you've done above) will help cope with the ugliness for now. We can try and clean it up in the future. Thanks!
