I recently added the PECL driver as an indirect composer.json dependency in doctrine/mongodb@bf542f0, so hopefully people catch this earlier (since composer executes in the CLI environment).

The problem you experienced was likely caused by the reference to MongoCursor::$timeout for a default value in the Configuration class. Prior to that being added yesterday, the only references to the base Mongo classes were in the profiler services, which never execute in the CLI environment.

Although it was obvious this time, please include a stack trace when reporting exceptions in the future, as it makes diagnosis much easier.
