I have reopened this because the fix for this issue caused a regression. See #262 for details. I have a new fix for this issue in
#263.
My new fix may be somewhat overkill as it handles every possible way that I can think of for capabilities being null in the stack trace provided in #51 (comment) - see specifically commit d84f1ee
from lsp4e.
