@joeyb I'm interested in seeing a Java port. Do you have a set of maintainers that would be willing to manage a repo? We can provide CircleCI. Optimally it would be nice to start with 3 maintainers just for coverage (even more optimal if from more than one organization but that might not be possible right away).

@mattklein123 - I'm still working on figuring out additional maintainers on our end. In the mean time, I've published a PoC implementation here: https://github.com/joeyb/java-control-plane. The protos are due for an update following the recent re-orgs, but it should have feature parity with the Go-based implementation.

@mattklein123 - I've coordinated some additional maintainers from our side. What would be the next steps in kicking off the project? The implementation that I linked above in my repo currently has feature parity with the Go implementation. It just needs a few more tests and a more thorough review.

@joeyb SGTM. Let's do it. @htuch any objections? Can you provide the GH names of the other maintainers? I can create the repo today and set everything up.

@mattklein123 no objections, sounds rad. I kind of wish we had a single source of truth when it came to API sequencing and update logic, but given the way different language communities work, I can envisage a Java/gRPC/C++ split. Hopefully we can have no more than those three (everyone else uses C++ bindings, just like in the gRPC world).

@mattklein123 - awesome, thanks! The other initial maintainers are @b-hoyt and @ramaraochavali.

@htuch - Totally agree. I'd love to not have to create a separate impl, but building on top of a native c++/etc. impl would be pretty unpleasant on the JVM. Like you mentioned, I think gRPC is great prior art for this. It would make sense to end up with implementations in Java, Go, and C++, with the latter being consumed by most other non-JVM languages.

OK I created https://github.com/envoyproxy/java-control-plane. We can discuss further stuff in issues there. @joeyb @b-hoyt @ramaraochavali I sent you an invite to the org. Once you accept I will give you write access to the repo and off we go! Closing this out.
