Is this what you would use if you wanted two fuse-mounted dropbox like directories to remain in sync?
(I mean the same directory mounted on two different machines))

@zelig Concerning the data format:

D=S|CH|period|version|name

Currently the code does not opinionate the actual data part to be a content hash, but of course it can be (and will be in most cases). Thus right now it looks like this:

D=S|headerlength|period|version|name|data

Where CH will be data (but not necessarily the other way around) and headerlength is the byte length of period|version|name

headerlength is 2 bytes, period and version is 4 bytes each. name allows for arbitrary length.

I suggest we keep it like this.
