So the sunday?
method was actually added in Rails 3.2 (I think). Which version of Rails are you on?
from simple_calendar.
I'm currently using rails 3.2.11
from simple_calendar.
Okay cool. So it's not that for sure.
It seems that overriding the start_time
method like that didn't actually work. Can you paste the full stack trace so I can see which line of the gem it crashed on?

from simple_calendar.
I'm not sure if it's the conversion or not though because when I tried again by making a start_time datetime column in a migration and using that, it still didn't work.
from simple_calendar.
Yeah, this is interesting.
What's actually happening on that line of code is that I take the URL params and create a Date out of it, and then find out if it is the starting day of the week or not. Basically does this:
Date.civil(options[:year], options[:month]).sunday?
And if I do that with some code in the Rails console (3.2.11 running Ruby 1.9.3-p194) it works for me:
Loading development environment (Rails 3.2.11)
1.9.3-p194 :001 > Date.civil(2013, 2).sunday?
=> false
Can you try this in your console? The sunday?
method is in the Ruby standard library for 1.9.3, but not 1.9.2. It seems that I may have unknowingly bound my code to Ruby 1.9.3 as well because of the flexible Date methods that I wanted to use.
from simple_calendar.
ya that gives me an error
Loading development environment (Rails 3.2.11)
Date.civil(2013, 2).sunday?
NoMethodError: undefined method `sunday?' for Fri, 01 Feb 2013:Date
from (irb):1
I tested ruby -v and for some reason I'm still stuck on 1.8.7 even though I should have updated to 1.9.3 already using rvm. Thanks for the help
from simple_calendar.
That would do it! Even 1.9.2 doesn't support it unfortunately.
Since Rails 4 won't be supporting Ruby 1.8, I won't be patching to support that, however I don't mind fixing this to support Ruby 1.9.2 or lower if people need it. Chances are if someone is on 1.9.2, they'll have a fairly easy upgrade to 1.9.3 which they should do anyways.
Glad we figured this out! I'm going to close the issue and if anyone does need 1.9.2 they can comment here and we can get a patch going. 👍
